Apart from historic photographs, unless otherwise stated, all photos on this site were taken by members of my family. Please don't republish them without my permission. Thanks. © 2008 Mark Collins 10-06-2010 | Parracombe Halt ~ Lynton & Barnstaple Railway ~ Devon Click here to return to the Lynton & Barnstaple Route Map. The railings and tiny platform shelter are all that remains of Parracombe Halt. A bungalow (to the left of me taking this photo, and a stable now cover the track bed. Just north of the station, a narrow bridge carries a track over the formation. This is the view from the south side showing how the cutting has been filled in. The pipe across the blocked portal carries water into a tank - I wonder if this is the same spring that used to fill the water tank here to satisfy the thirsty locomotives? The ancient St Petrock's church can be seen behind the trees in the background. Finally, here is the view from the northern parapet - although now a lawn, the track bed is still clear to see. Please ask before reusing my pictures elsewhere - thanks. |
