Albert Collins worked at the Gypsum Mines but in WW1 he joined the Royal Engineers. He was commended for his bravery when, in 1918 he came under heavy fire and gas when taking supplies to the front. Though his horses were wounded, frightened and hard to control, he managed to get his transport back to the wagon lines.
