This is perhaps the finest window in the church and is known as the Peter Window. It depicts events from his life and death and won a prize in the 1851 International Exhibition in London and was presented to the church by the then Rector's brother in law. Click on the image to see the details.
To my mind the east window is the least attractive window in the building. Such a shame that such horrible glass should occupy such splendid tracery. Click on the image to see a larger version.
This fine Victorian glass shows the Raising of Lazerus (upper lights) and the Marriage Feast at Cana in Galilee (lower lights). Click on the image to see a larger version.
The east window in the Lady Chapel, of fine Victorian glass, shows in the upper light Jesus blessing children dressed in both in costume from the time of Christ and the 16th century, when the chapel was built. Below is the incident described in Matthew 26 when a woman anoints Jesus' feet with costly ointment and wipes them with her hair. This takes place in the house of Simon the leper in Bethany. Judas is shown, extreme right, with his bag containing the thirty pieces of silver, the reward for his betrayal. Click on the image to see a larger version.
The windows in the south wall of the Lady Chapel are also of fine Victorian glass. The first depicts scenes from the life of Jesus. 1. Speaking to Martha before raising her brother Lazerus to life; 2. Appearing to Mary after the Resurrection; 3. Declared to be the Lamb of God by John the Baptist; 4. Commissioning Peter, holding a key, to be leader of the Church. The second window shows the conversion of St Paul and the stoning of Stephen, the first Christian martyr. The south and north aisle windows contain some fragments of medieval glass, but despite being photographed, are not illustrated here.
