Combe Martin is where Alan spent his childhood, and this set of postcards was given to him by his grandmother. This card is quite interesting as it depicts Reuben Dale, the hero of a Victorian novel written by Marie Corelli called 'The Mighty Atom' (1896), standing by the Belfry Door. There is a transcription of the complete novel on line, here, published by the Women Writers Project.
