Cruel Plant Seed Pod, March 2003

We have a Cruel Plant (Araujia seciofera) growing up the side of our house, and when it fruited late last summer we left the pods on the plant.  Alan brought them in a couple of months ago and put them on an upstairs window ledge hoping they would dry out.  We were amazed when one 'exploded' and hundreds of seeds attached to their whispy parachutes emerged!  Alan had intended to plant the whole thing to see if it would grow, now we have loads of seeds!
