Family Iridaceae; Genus Crocosmia
Crocosmia (previously known as Montbretia) is one of my favourite plants, and there are many different varieties available. This one was one of the plants rescued from the undergrowth when we took over the garden - it is seriously tall (up to five feet) and has these gorgeous, upward facing, deep orange flowers.
Sadly we don't know the name of this variety although it appears to love our acidic soil, and we now have several large clumps.
Just on a point of interest Crocosmia means 'safron smell'.
