A modern church, set in the centre of one of the newer parts of the town. The church was rebuilt in 1998.
"The Metropolis of Mid Sussex", by Wyn K. Ford & A. C. Gabe (1981, Charles Clarke, ISBN 950248940), states "In the late 1960's St Edmund's Church was itself superseded by a new Church of the Ascension built, together with a fine church hall and a house for the pries, in the heart of the modern development in Vale Road and Sheppeys area of the town. The first priest in charge was the Rev. A. G. Collin and the first confirmation in the church was conducted by the Bishop of Horsham in January, 1970."
