THE WINDOWS

The windows are presented in order as they can be seen walking around the church from the entrance in an anti-clockwise direction.  The top of the side windows is hidden by the galleries, I have included as much as is visible.

The inscription of the first window, which depicts St Michael and St George, reads "To the Glory of God & in loving m(emory) of Frank Matthew Hobbs. 2nd Lieut. 4th Battalion of Royal Fusiliers  * K(illed) at the Battle of the Aisne Sept 14th 1914."

The next window illustrates the bible verse "Suffer the little children to come unto me".  The inscription on the window reads "To the Glory of God and in loving memory of Alfred Vernon Oliver Jones Lieutenant Royal Field Artillery and Royal Flying Corps killed near Beaulencourt on the 21st July 1916 when flying as leading observer on a bombing expedition.  Erected by his uncle, sister and brother."  The inscription on the plaque below reads: "In loving memory of Alfred Vernon Oliver Jones killed at Beaulincourt July 21 1916 & of Francis Maude Oliver Jones born 1896, who died at Davos-Platz Switzerland 1931."

The lovely east window has the two texts: "I am the resurrection and the life" at the top, and at the base "Jesus is risen, he is not here, behold the place where they laid him."

Here is a detail from the window, showing the wonderful quality of expression.
