This building is situated on Coombe Road, and was part of the Parish of the Resurrection, Brighton.
Owing to dwindling finances and a leaking roof, the decision to close the church was taken during 2006 and managed as a 'two part' closure. On Sunday 18th June 2006 there was a Patronal Festival Service attended by a number of past priests and friends from other churches, followed by a reception in the church hall. The following Sunday, 25th June, there was a mass for the congregation taken by the Rector of the Parish of the Resurrection, Canon Beaumont Brandie, assisted by the Rev. Charles Macrae, the priest that had taken services since the departure of the former priest to another parish. This was the last service at St Alban's.
Once the Church Commissioners confirmed the Bishop of Chichester’s recommendation that St Alban’s should be declared redundant, and following a delay while the title deeds were located, St Alban’s was declared officially closed on Monday 22nd November 2006.
My thanks to Mr Laurie Wellard (church warden) for information about the closure of this church.
