Former Congregational Church, Lewes Road, Brighton, East Sussex - 25th October 2004

This attractive facade was fortunately preserved when the site was redeveloped for housing in 1997.  The church was designed by A Harford of Bristol and was built of Kentish ragstone in the Italianate Gothic style.

The foundation stone reads:
"Congregational Church, This memorial stone was laid by William Stevens Esquire, October 16 1878, Rev. H. Foystar, Pastor"

The following photograph is shown with the kind permission of Barbara Lawson (and her mum) and is believed to be a celebration of Empire Day in the church between 1932 and 1934.  If anyone can confirm either the date or the location Barbara would be very grateful.  Also, do you recognise any of these people?   It would be nice to put some names to faces!
