During 1998 I visited my relatives in Canada for the first time, indeed I believe the first 'in person' contact between the Collins and Monk descendants since the war years. My aunt, Margaret, has been corresponding with Bill Monk for some years, and it was tremendous to meet him and so many other relations for the first time.
As well as the wonderful people, I completely fell in love with British Columbia, and want to return as soon as I can manage it. It is an incredibly beautiful place.
Bill was kind enough to let me borrow this album while I was visiting Grindrod, and I spent a long night scanning all the pictures into my laptop computer. It was a real joy to discover a picture of my great great grandmother and also of my great grandmother that I hadn't seen before.
Sadly Bill passed away in January 2003 and the album is now in the care of Eileen Kernaghan, Bill's daughter.
I thought the album itself worthy of a picture - quite lovely!
